Terms of Use

vent matches you with strangers for anonymous, encrypted conversations. Using it means agreeing to these terms and to our house rules.

Eligibility

You must be 18 or older. You must provide your real birth date at signup. Accounts of anyone found to be under 18 are removed.

The house rules

Stay anonymous — never share or solicit last names, addresses, workplaces, phone numbers, socials, or exact locations. Be a human being: empathy, patience, and listening are the point. No harassment, cruelty, hate, or threats. No screenshots or recordings of conversations. Anything sexual results in an immediate, permanent ban.

Strikes and bans

Rule violations — including screenshots and rude or abusive behavior — earn strikes. Three strikes result in a permanent ban. Sexual content results in an immediate ban with no strikes. You will always be shown a warning and how many strikes remain. If you believe a strike or ban was a mistake, email appeals@vent.talk and a person will review it.

Reporting

Every conversation has a report button. When you report someone, you may share your device's copy of the conversation with us for review; the other person cannot be identified to you, nor you to them.

Not a crisis service

vent is strangers listening to strangers — it is not therapy, medical care, or an emergency service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (US) or your local emergency number.

The service

Conversations are ephemeral by design and deleted when they end. We may update these terms and the app; continued use is acceptance. We may suspend accounts that endanger others. The service is provided as-is, without warranties, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
